Koh Kradan Island is a very tiny and rather secluded island in Thailand. Primordial beauty, relative solitude, pure water - this is what this place is famous for.
Where is Ko Kradan Island? In the Trang province of Thailand, south of Lanta Island, next to the islands of Ko Libong, Muk and Ngai. It has a shape elongated from north to south. The length of the island is about 3 km.
Usually they come here only for a day from other islands, but in general Ko Kradan is ideal for staying here for a longer period and withdrawing from the whole world. A good solution would be to come here with a tent to spend a few days living in nature, far from civilization. Backpackers this place is appreciated and loved.
In the western part of the island, there are several hard-to-reach beaches that can only be reached by boat - they can serve as a great place for seclusion.
There is also a real jungle on the island.
There are beautiful landscapes, immaculate turquoise water, white sand and very few people. There are no locals on the island - everyone you can meet here is either tourists or Thais working in the tourist sphere from the continent or the nearest islands.
There are not many hotels here, so prices are not very low: on one half of the island there are more expensive hotels (1000-2000 baht / night, there is even a particularly "advanced" hotel for 10 thousand baht / night), on the other half there are more budget hotels (500-700 baht). Despite the fact that the flow of tourists to the island of Ko Kradan is small, there is serious competition between the hotels for customers: when a new person goes ashore, the owners of local hotels start a conversation with him, who almost impose on friends, so that the potential client does not take away the owner of a nearby hotel. That's how they live.
Read about how to fly to Thailand and not splurge on air tickets in my review - in it I listed all the ways to fly to Bangkok as cheaply as possible. Also learn about all the ways to get from Bangkok Airport to the city center and vice versa.
Alas, there is a big problem with catering on Koh Kradan. There are absolutely no usual local establishments where you can eat tasty and inexpensive, only restaurants at hotels, the prices of food in which are not at all pleasing.
Part of the island is the territory of the National Marine Park, the entrance to which costs 200 baht.
It is believed that Koh Kradan Island is one of the best snorkeling spots in Thailand, which is best done in the bay on the side of the island where the Ao Niang Hotel is located - there are almost no motor boats in this area, so it is safer to swim and dive here.
Unfortunately, the coral reef of the island is no longer as beautiful as it used to be - it was pretty battered by the tsunami. But in some places it is still well preserved, moreover, in these waters you can admire not only corals, but also the inhabitants of the sea - there are plenty of beautiful tropical fish and other marine inhabitants here.
Sunset Beach, located in the western part of the island, is considered one of the best places on Koh Kradan. There is a nice coral reef here, and in general it is just a very beautiful place. The ideal option would be to come here in the evening to meet the sunset (the sun will set in the sea), or even stay here for a night or two in a tent.
